1/2/2023 General Josh Update
Tomorrow marks 3 months since Joshua's stroke happened. Time feels strange in important/unique/traumatic times of life, especially the first days and weeks. It feels more normal now.
Physically - Joshua's doing very well. His physical therapy went from 2x/week in November to 1x/week in December to 2x/month in January.
He passed his driver evaluation last week so HE CAN DRIVE again! This feels huge for him and us. Driving again will hopefully help his spirits, as he'll be able to get himself to and from the gym, friends, etc. at his own convenience.Occupational Therapy (OT) - He basically "graduated" in late November. He says the sensation on the right side feels different than the left side, although he can feel everything. He says it's hard to explain.
Speech - He was finally able to get in for an evaluation a few weeks ago, after he got sick the day of the first one and it had to be delayed a month. He starts his first speech therapy appointment this week and will do a few over the next month or so before we decide if more are needed.
NF1 - Josh saw the neuro-opthamologist, neurologist, and Pediatrician in December. He has more imaging (MRA's) this month to rule out some possibly bigger concerns connected to NF1. If that's good, we won't have too much until we see the geneticist in April and possibly do more imaging then.
Emotionally - He's been struggling the most in this area. Anxiety has been a big issue. We've tried many things, some of which have noticeably helped. We've talked with multiple care providers and more tools are coming. He'll start counseling this month and we're all hopeful that will be a big help.
He got an e-bike for Christmas and that seems to have helped in all areas. He loves it! The bike itself, the riding, the fresh air outdoors, peaceful alone time, and moving his body.
He also recently did a little guitar performance at a senior center. He played (plucking style) Greensleeves, which is the tune of "What Child is This". Music is definitely helpful and positive.
*Thanks to everyone who gave us Christmas gifts, cards, and continued thoughts and prayers! Happy belated Holidays! 🎄🎉
